The Florida Bariatric Centers at Largo Medical Center is proud to announce its first non-surgical weight loss procedure was performed Tuesday, July 5. The Orbera Gastric Balloon insertion procedure was performed by Tiffany Jessee-Wylie, DO, Bariatric and General Surgeon. The balloon is a weight loss aid for individuals suffering from obesity.

"The Orbera Gastric Balloon is an option for our patients that are not candidates for surgery or not interested in surgery," said Dr. Jessee. "This gives us another option to offer safe and effective non-surgical treatments to our patients throughout their weight loss journey."

The balloon is placed endoscopically with the same type of endoscope that is used to look at a stomach when assessing a patient for reflux disease. The device is temporary. It is usually removed six months after placement. With the balloon, individuals are involved in behavior modification including diet and exercise.

"Since opening the Florida Bariatric Centers at Largo Medical Center, we have prided ourselves in assisting our patients with their weight loss needs. The Orbera Balloon procedure gives us the opportunity to provide options to our patients that they may not be able to receive elsewhere," said Anthony Degina, Chief Executive Officer at Largo Medical Center.

The Florida Bariatric Centers are located in hospitals throughout the Tampa Bay area including Brandon Regional Hospital, Largo Medical Center, Memorial Hospital of Tampa and Palms of Pasadena Hospital.
